Iram Husain is the Regional Medicines Information (MI) Manager for Education and Governance at the London MI Service (Northwick Park Hospital), UK. She is an active member on the UKMi Clinical Governance and Workforce Development subcommittees, as well as secretary to the latter. Iram also writes the quarterly Incident Reporting in MI System (IRMIS) report for UKMi members which provide strategies to prevent errors/near misses in MI.
She organises, develops and helps deliver the 3-day residential National MI Training Course (NMITC) for MI professionals as well as the content of the web-based pharmacy staff training programme MiCAL (Medicines Information Computer Aided Learning). She has successfully attained Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) accreditation for MiCAL and is currently collaborating with RPS to attain a similar status for the NMITC.
Iram teaches at the University College London, UK, on the MSc in Advanced Pharmacy Practice (literature searching skills and databases) and at the Middlesex University, London, on the Non-Medical Prescribing Module (dealing with medicines related questions).
She has been involved in the development of MiDatabank and the MiSharer, and a number of local research projects which impact directly to improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of MI Services.
In addition, she manages a team of pharmacists, supports around 20 local MI services, and maintains her own clinical skills by being part of the regional enquiry answering service.
Iram believes that MI skills are core for any healthcare profession dealing with medicines related questions. She is passionate about providing high quality and effective MI services with patient care and safety at its heart.
